UMUR
"Agma" is the sixth full-length studio album by Swedish death metal act Wombbath. The album was released through Transcending Obscurity Records in December 2021. It´s the successor to "Tales of Madness" from December 2020. "Agma" is a highly ambitious piece of work from Wombbath featuring no less than 16 tracks and a total playing time of 72:36 minutes, which is essentially a double album release. It´s not everyday you´re exposed to an extreme metal album this quantity packed.
While the basis of Wombbath´s music hasn´t changed since the last couple of releases, and it´s still old school Swedish death metal which is on the menu, Wombbath have however made an effort to incorporate creative details (only briftly but there´s for example the use of keyboards, violin, and choirs on some tracks) and elements from both goth (I hear the occasional nod towards artists like Tiamat and Paradise Lost) and doom metal (there´s some melancholic lead guitar work on some of those sections, which are quite nice), which make "Agma" a relatively varied release for the genre and also an entertaining release throughout the 70 minutes long playing time. It´s certainly their most interesting release since their 2014 comeback and finally a release from Wombbath which shows a more unique identity. "Agma" is well produced too and upon conclusion it´s a good quality release by Wombbath and a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
