What a filthy thing this album is, really! Old school Swedish death metal revived by a bunch of wicked Northerners is something I wished to hear. And what I heard is 30 minutes of highly entertaining material. Not to mention this mega-filthy cover art, pleasing the eye with blasphemous icon!
Verminous is sometimes referred to as part of new wave of Swedish death metal and I think it's quite accurate term. With their debut album, IMPIOUS SACRILEGE, Verminous present the most chaotic, satanic and raw side of the style. The guys blaspheme without a moment's rest, God damn it! Riffs are very fast and quite well executed. To be honest, even though not all of the parts are flawless, this pinch of imprecision do the album only good. Every track is full of chaotic time and theme changes, atmospheric climaxes and some funny spoken satanic samples.
What I like most about IMPIOUS SACRILEGE is spontaneous energy highlighted with organic production. Songwriting is good as well - songs are well constructed despite the chaotic nature of the style. Satan helped them, I guess. But seriously, it's a very nice old school death metal effort with great atmosphere and ass-kicking pace. Recommended!
