Eria Tarka
Often times a particular artist will leave a somewhat blury line marked between Folk and Black metal styles. This debut EP from the Swedish group; Trymheim further solidifies that statement. Don't get me wrong, these two styles mesh quite well together, and this band proves that. Now, without further delay, let's talk about this record.

The self-titled opening track starts off in a rather slow, and to be honest, predictable fashion. The listener is fist met with traditional folk instruments and ambient sounds. But later greeted by the rest of the pumping out a slow, heavy passage until the tracks end. This song doesn't sound like anything I've never heard before, but it does it's job.

With the second track, we are met with a ferocious blast beat, paired with your standard black metal vocals. This track blasts through from start to finish. Might I mention that this EP has some seriously dodgy production. It might be expected from this kind of release, but nonetheless worth mentioning.

From here the rest of the record flows along at a steady pace. Less of the blistering speed of the second track will be found. But more of a traditional, mid-paced Folk metal sound, chalk full of rich synthesizer sounds. It is worth noting that this 20 minute EP end with a very epic feel. First, just the sound of pounding drums, followed by one last blast beat section. During this time, the keyboards wail triumphantly and the album is brought to a screeching halt.

This was a nice little EP to listen to, just the right amount of Synth-driven Blackened Folk Metal for me. Definitely worth a few listens... 3 1/2 Stars for Trymheim's "Begynnelse".
