Bite the dust (and banjo)...

Genre: groove metal / southern metal

Groove metal became so huge in the 90s that it imploded upon itself at record speed and degenerated into nu metal. But now that that fad has pretty much dies, good groove metal bands are starting to emerge once again.

One such band is the Italian duo Tombstone Highway and, I'm telling you' if it weren't for the Italian accent which with the vocals are delivered, you would think that they hailed from either the swamps of Mississippi or the plains of Texas.

Each song is full of crushing grooves and rocking riffs in the vein of Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Mountain and Black Sabbath, but wrapped in the heaviness of Pantera and the darkness of Cathedral. These Italians remind us of the power of the groove, and, as if to take the Southern attitude to the nth degree, they even feature banjos and slide guitars in some of their songs as in the case of 'Old Blood'. And there's also room for a Mountain cover.

If you are looking to be smitten by the groove, then "Ruralizer" is a good candidate for an album to kick you in the butt and inject some testosterone into your balls. You're guaranteed to be cured of nu metallitis having heard this album.
