UMUR
"Sulphur Psalms" is the first demo release by German death metal act Sulphur Aeon. The demo was independently released in February 2010. It saw a physical release in August 2010 through Imperium Productions. It´s a cassette tape release limited to 100 copies. Sulphur Aeon was formed in 2010 by the duo of M. (vocals) and T. (guitars, bass, drum programming), and it´s that duo who perform on "Sulphur Psalms".
Stylistically the material on the 5 track, 17:00 minutes long demo is energetic, brutal, and technically well played death metal with the occasional blackened edge. While I always prefer a human drummer in music like this, it´s one of the cases where the drum programming is pretty well done, and it´s therefore not a huge issue. Sulphur Aeon combine quite a few elements from various death metal subgenres, and I hear both blackened death metal, technical death metal, and melodic death metal here, and it´s one their greatest strengths, that they are able to seamlessly make their death metal hybrid style work.
"Sulphur Psalms" is arguably a well produced, well performed, and also well composed demo, and it´s no surprise Sulphur Aeon quickly got signed...they hit the ground running with this release, and it´s overall a high quality demo and a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
