Rock n roll heroes...

Genre: hard rock

Sometimes, music should just be all about fun times and rock 'n' roll. And if there's anything that can be said about Razznattazz' debut album "Rock N Roll Hero" is that there is definitely nothing arty farty about it.

It is simply all out hard rock 'n' roll.

The main strength of the album is the music itself. Razzmattazz deliver the good in the form of uptempo hard rock tracks that combine the twang of AC/DC with the funk of Aerosmith, throwing in a slight touch of melodi rock every now and then. Thus, 'Rock N Roll Hero' is a hard rocker with a more melodic chorus, and 'Metalgod' draws on early hard rock/metal, and the heavy 'Takkaa Takkaa' combines a marching groove that you would here more often in industrial metal with a melodic bridge and pumping bass figures. I really like the simple all out hard rock 'n' roll music that Razzmattazz offers up on this album (even te blues-meets-funk ballad 'Overdose' is enjoyable').

There is one major element which severely detracts from the experience of listening to the album and that's the lyrics which strike me as, I am sorry to say, being incredibly stupid. I mean, I know that we are talking hard rock 'n' roll here, and that the lyrics should not be about poetry and metaphysics, but I guess that my threshold for songs about hookers, beer, boobs and ass is just not very high. Also, AC/DC have shown that these topics and the whole rock 'n' roll style can be lyrically approached with much more finesse and humor than what we hear on this album.

Had the lyrics been less simpelton-oriented, I would probably have given this album 4 stars, but I just can't help being annoyed at them every time I hear the album. A shame, because the music itself is hard rock 'n' roll the way hard rock 'n' roll should be.
