"Beautiful Delusion" is the 2nd full-length studio album by Canadian thrash metal act Jarhead. The album was released through the band´s Bandcamp profile at a "Name Your Price" tag in November 2012. Jarhead´s debut album "Image of Insanity (2009)" is also offered under the same conditions on their Bandcamp profile.
The band play an organic sounding thrash/heavy metal with semi-growling raw vocals. It all sounds very authentic which is helped along by the raw organic sound production. The band are well playing and the vocals by Jerry Rombough are nice and rough (as mentioned above almost semi-growling in nature). I´ve seen Jarhead described as progressive in some reviews, but I wouldn´t as such call them that. They do however have an adventurous approach to songwriting and the music on "Beautiful Delusion" certainly can´t be labelled proto type thrash metal either. I guess the weird looking cover artwork also signals that.
The music could generally have been sligthly more memorable, but Jarhead bring the passion, the energy and the aggression that are needed to elevate "Beautiful Delusion" from solid to pretty good and I´d say a 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating is well deserved.
