"Defect Dimension of Souls" is the first demo recording by Danish death metal act Frozen Sun. The demo was independently released in April 1993. Frozen Sun formed in 1992 and although it would take three long years before the band were able to release their debut full-length studio album "Dimensions" (1996), which features a re-recorded version of the title track from this demo, Frozen Sun are generally considered an important group on the early 90s Danish death metal scene.
Stylistically Frozen Sun are very obviously influenced greatly by Deicide. Both the anti-Christian/blasphemous lyrical content but also the pummeling brutality of the music and the vocals by Kenny Nielsen point in that direction. So, we can quickly establish that Frozen Sun don´t bring much new to the table, but what they do bring to the table are a well sounding demo production job, high level musical performances (a very well playing demo band these guys), and enough power, brutality, and aggression to tilt an elephant. Frozen Sun understand the importance of changing pace once in a while too, which provide the tracks with some variation and heavy mid-paced/fast-blasting dynamics which works well for them.
Upon conclusion "Defect Dimension of Souls" is one of the better quality demos from the Danish death metal scene of the early 90s, and although Frozen Sun don´t pull out any unique songwriting ideas or anything else that´ll surprise the listener, the overall quality is high and a 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
