UMUR
"Unyielding" is the second full-length studio album by German power metal act Eternity's End. The album was released through Avalon Records in December 2018. It´s the successor to "The Fire Within" from 2016 and features quite a few lineup changes since the predecessor. Lead vocalist Ian Parry has been replaced by Iuri Sanson (Hibria, Ashrain)
Eternity's End was formed in 2014 by guitarist/composer Christian Muenzner (Alkaloid, Spawn of Possession, Obscura, Necrophagist...). Muenzner subsequently enlisted drummer Hannes Grossmann (Alkaloid, Blotted Science, Obscura, Necrophagist...), and keyboard player Jimmy Pitts (Scholomance, Super String Theory), and those three are the remaining members from the lineup who recorded "The Fire Within (2016)". New in the lineup are bassist Mike Lepond (Symphony X) who replaces Linus Klausenitzer, lead vocalist Iuri Sanson (Hibria, Ashrain) who replaces Ian Parry, and Phil Tougas has also joined as a second guitarist.
Stylistically little has changed though as this is still high energy Euro power metal in the faster paced and more intense end of the spectrum. All the genre elements are in place. Galloping drum rhythms, double pedal work, neo-classical influenced lead guitar- and keyboard work, fast-paced sharp guitar riffs, and a high pitched lead vocalist in front who is complimented by loads of vocal harmonies and anthemic choirs. Eternity's End are not your usual keyboard/synth drenched vanilla version of a Euro power metal act though, and there´s both aggression, punch, and power to their music and performances that you won´t encounter on all releases in this style. Honestly there´s some absolutely jaw-dropping moments on the album. Both in terms of strong and memorable songwriting ideas but also in terms of high level technical playing.
"Unyielding" features a clear, professional, and detailed sound production, which suits the material perfectly. It´s polished enough for all details to stand out, but still raw enough to not suck energy and punch from the material. A near perfect sound production for the compositions. So upon conclusion "Unyielding" is a high quality power metal release from Eternity's End and a great follow-up to their promising debut album. A 4 - 4.5 star (85%) rating is deserved.
