Orpheus is an atmospheric/avant-garde rock/metal project formed in 2006 by vocalist/guitarist and songwriter, J. R. Y, and drummer and co-songwriter, T. J. F. Vallely. The lyrical themes loosely encompass ideas within the spectrum of nature, the ocean, exploration and history. Before splitting up there were two releases: a debut album entitled 'Philosopher of the Sublime' and released in May 2010 through London based experimental label Paradigms Recordings. Most of the material on the debut album derives from an unreleased demo from 2006, and was recorded between April 2008 and March 2009. In early 2010 Orpheus began writing their follow-up release, 'The Mind's Exotica', which was recorded between August-October 2010. The style present on the EP was far more progressive and unlike the debut, had no influences from folk song/early music. There are two more releases: one from 2011 and one from 2012.
