Arising from the final dissolution of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Bachman & Turner is a duo formed from Randy Bachman and Fred Turner in 2009.
Starting out as a Randy Bachman solo project, Bachman had on-board many artist such as Neil Young and Paul Rodgers as collaborators. Later, a decision was made to bring Fred Turner on board as a permanent member. However when the project was formally announced along with news of an album and a tour, a lawsuit was formed by former members of BTO, Rob Bachman and Blair Thornton. They argued that "Bachman & Turner" would cause confusion with the original Bachman-Turner Overdrive, a band name registered by Rob Bachman and Thornton upon Randy Bachman's departure from the band and subsequent solo career in 1977. The lawsuit ended in an agreement where, while the pair could tour under the moniker, they would be charged a small fee for both studio
