Mortillery's Origin of Extinction offers a no-nonsense sound midway between traditional heavy metal and thrash, spiced up by Cara McCutchen's vocals (which are a little reminiscent of a less screamy version of Cam Pipes from 3 Inches of Blood). It's a fun little album which doesn't rewrite the rulebook but establishes Mortillery as a competent enough unit, but I can't help that slightly more ambitious songwriting (as well as some judicious editing - Creature Possessor is a little too repetitive in its current state and should probably have been held back for more polishing, for example) might help unlock the band's full potential.
