Vehemency Wodulf, of which members are more known from Der Stürmer, offers eight tracks of black metal that don't sound downright violent, but more focused on the atmosphere. Riff-wise, ...from the Corpsegates relies quite heavily and clearly on Norwegian black metal influences such as Darkthrone. However, as opposite to the more common high-pitched screams in this style of black metal, Wodulf's singer provides lower grunts, perhaps a bit reminiscent of Mikko Aspa from Clandestine Blaze.

The mixing of ...from the Corpsegates could have been done better I think because it is somewhat unbalanced. The drums are somewhere far in the background while the vocals are quite accentuated. This results in a slightly dull production that makes the album as a whole sound a bit vapid. Luckily it’s not too big problem so that the songs are still enjoyable. I must give points for the really interesting lyrics. The band is often associated with nothing but National Socialism and hence many would get the conclusion that their lyrics are senseless rubbish, but don’t let the NS mark disturb you. The lyrics of ...from the Corpsegates are rich and the focus seems to be on the occult.

Compositionally the album is both slow and fast. The faster sections don’t have much power due to the dull nature of the production, though. Hence Wodulf seems to be at its best when playing slower. There are not many contenders for standout tracks, although I can mention the sinister riffing of ”A Black Skullbanner Appeared from the Corpsegates” and ”Nekyia (Hideous Rite of the Spilled Blood)” with its militant drumming as highlight moments. Far from a perfect album, this is, but I have my expectations high when, or if, there is a new output coming.
