This seems to be a direct continuation of their previous album, with very little power metal, so far, though the songwriting seems maybe a tad stronger. They definitely seem to be a melodic prog band for good, now.

I'll keep an open mind if you think the writing is better, but that's not what I wanted to hear about this. I found them much blander on their last album.

Yeah, I wasn't that big a fan of their one, either, though their only other album I had heard was Disciples of the Sun, so I wasn't that familiar with their power metal stuff (that album was definitely much better than this or their last one, though.)
Speaking of which, there were a couple really strong songs early on, but now around the middle it's starting to drag a bit, with some very samey, mid paced tracks. Only one track has been faster paced, up to this point, and I'm on track 8. Edit: The ending sequence was much stronger, and lifted the album somewhat. Still not quite 4 stars on first listen, though. The final track is fantastic, at least, and all three vocalists are used quite a bit, which is nice.

Definitely better than the last album, after three listens. There's a bit more variety to the tracks, and enough memorable moments in each track to avoid the sameyness factor that plagued that one. That final track, though, is absolutely ridiculous, and one of my favorites songs from all of 2020, so far!
