Again. It's very rare for a modern prog album to earn 5 stars from me on first listen, but this did, and the second listen is only going ever better! This is basically Evergrey, if they had more power metal elements, a technically better singer (I love Tom, but he's not really great technically, tbh) and much better melodies.

 I was expecting this to be a comedown, after that amazing Vanishing Point album and a couple awesome new singles, but the track "Halo" is fantastic. Otherwise, though, it basically is just yet another generic Primal Fear album so far, as always.

Got to say, I haven't been blown away by any Eloy album yet the same way as Floating. I love that one and already bought it. Ozrics I'm really getting into as well, though I've only heard two albums so far. More electronic than I normally listen to but I love their spacey vibes. There's no beating Floating, but I really love Performance and Metromania too. However those are really different, very 80's with more of a new wave rock sound though still with some heavy and spacey sections. You can't go wrong with any Ozrics albums, but other than the two you've heard I'd recommend Erpland, The Hidden Step, and Paper Monkeys next. Seeing all this Chevelle got me in the mood, listening to this album. EDIT: Forgot how great this album is, I'd say its grown on me a bit since I last listened. The Clincher is always on rotation, but there's a ton of favorites on here.

I'm not a prog fan either apart from Gentle Giant and a couple Yes albums, but I've always considered Rush more of a hard rock/metal band than a prog band. Great album. Some of their longer (double CD) albums could have benefited from some quality control but there's nearly always much to enjoy though their recent albums don't hold up against the classic stuff like Space Revolver (my favourite), Flower Power and Stardust We Are.

Hocus Pocus by Focus. Helloween covered it on their Metal Jukebox album. Focus also did the theme song for Saxondale (Steve Coogan comedy about an ageing roadie/exterminator). |
