I belated counted Pokemon movies in my anime based lists. I forgot they counted as when I think of anime I think of watching them in Japanese.
Some of the best movies I saw in 2020 were anime. I've also just ordered my first anime TV series boxset (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex).

It's an area I may look into some time. I have actually seen a few live action Japanese movies and liked them.

Just one? Okay, but answer me this first: adult orientated or family friendly?

Open to either. I still watch Disney every so often and Pixar a lot more than that. Give me one of each if you like.

That makes it a little easier. For family friendly, bearing in mind that's a term more loosely used for Japanese movies if thinking if the standards here in the west, then you need a Studio Ghibli movie. Spirited Away is the logical choice. Though you can't really go wrong with almost any of them, there is good reason why Spirited Away is their best known film and until recently was the highest grossing film in Japan above even the likes of Titanic and Frozen. For adult orientated, I think a lot of people might say Ghost in the Shell, because it has a huge franchise across manga, film and TV etc. But I'm instead going to say Akira. That was the first more mature anime I watched and got me more interested beyond the Ghibli classics.

Yeah anime streaming isn't that great in the UK. Netflix is better than Amazon is and they have most of the Ghibli catalogue now. What they lack is Grave of the Fireflies, which is their only movie rated higher than PG in the UK. But you can watch all the others there currently and a few others from different studios. If you get into anime you can pick up Akira quite easily and cheaply here though.

Got to say I'm surprised by how much I've come to love anime.
Studio Ghibli's movies have proven valuable to me in 2020 actually. They have a charm to them (especially the normal animation style they use) that brightened up my darkest days last year and I fully expect to have to turn to them again before long. That's the reason a man in his 30s watched Kiki's Delivery Service no less than three times in 2020.

I'm holding off more lists for a bit longer. Never known such a poor showing even for the start of the year on LC. Not even 20 people used my December list. That's an all time low. Last December at least got 56.
