I love a good concept album, a few off the top of my head:

Ayreon - All albums except Actual Fantasy of course
Anubis Gate - The Detached
Avantasia - Metal Opera 1 & 2
Avantasia - Wicked Trilogy (Scarecrow, wicked Symphony, Angel of babylon)
Evergrey - In Search of Truth
Beyond Twilight - Section X
Dream Theater - Metropolis pt. 2
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Carach Angren - Death Came Through a Phantom Ship
Winterhorde - Underwatermoon
Within Temptation - The Unforgiving
Opeth - Still Life
Haken - Aquarius
Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider
Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura
Pyramaze - Legend of the Bone Carver
Rebellion - Sagas of Iceland, Miklagard & Arise (The History of the Vikings Trilogy - 3 album concept)

Most (if not all) already mentioned, but anyway:
  • Aquarius by Haken. Thumbs Up
  • Metropolis pt.2 by Dream Theater.
  • Still Life by Opeth.
  • Human Equation by Ayreon.
  • Seventh Son(...) by Iron Maiden

I also didn't know that Pain of Salvation's Remedy Lane and  Perfect Element pt.1 were concept albums Stern Smile but if that is the case, they definitely deserve mention too.

I think it is once again appropriate to call upon The Dwelling.  After all, it has to be a concept album if it's only one song right?

Temple of Shadows, by Angra, is pure prog-power awesomeness!

I'm sorry for bumping another old and irrelevant thread, but how is The Mantle a concept album?

Anyways, to answer the OP:

Fanisk: Noontide (there doesn't seem to be any lyrical theme, but the entire album musically flows as one conceptual piece so I'd say it counts)
Iron Maiden: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Sabbat (JPN): The Dwelling
Moonsorrow: Verisakeet
Edge of Sanity: Crimson
Edge of Sanity: Crimson II
Ulver: Nattens Madrigal
Ulver: Bergtatt
Opeth: Ghost Reveries
Opeth: Still Life
Moonsorrow: Kivenkantaja
Dream Theater: Scenes From a Memory
Queensryche: Operation: Mindcrime
Taranis: Kingdom
Porcupine Tree: Deadwing
Devin Townsend Project: Deconstruction
Porcupine Tree: Fear of a Blank Planet
Make a Change... Kill Yourself: s/t
Opeth: My Arms, Your Hearse
Sabbat (UK): Dreamweaver
Leviathan: The Tenth Sub-Level of Suicide
Devin Townsend: Ziltoid the Omniscient
Shadow Gallery: Tyranny

Probably others I'm forgetting, but whatever.

When is it not appropriate to call upon The Dwelling?

This is a concept album?  If so then I'm embarrassed, it's my favorite of their "later" efforts but I had no idea that it followed a specific concept.

Is Opeth's Watershed a concept? If not then King Diamond - Abigail gets my vote.
