Oh and I don't exactly love it but Helloween's Chameleon isn't a bad album in its own right, even if as a Helloween release its pretty bad. A lot of people seem to hate Pink Bubbles Go Ape too. That one I don't get.

I'll try and explain then!  

It's not a BAD album per se. It's a frightfully mediocre album however, its weakeness heightened by the fact that it followed the two Keeper albums.

Add to that the fact that they removed the pumpkin from the logo and replaced it with a bubble (...) and wrapped the whole thing in that shitty "avant-garde" photograph for a cover (a girl holding a fish - so deep), the business suits with fried eggs on their eyes (seriously, what kind of a moron thought this was cool for Helloween? The band that had a goldmine in the pumpkin and fantasy themes goes artsy fartsy - brilliant)... it's no wonder the vast majority thought this was shit. It's not really shit. It's just shit compared to the Keepers.

Then again, they outdid themselves with Chameleon. Pop/rock. It's not bad pop/rock mind you. I'd even go as far to call it overall a better album than Pink Bubbles, as far as songwriting goes. But let me tell you, I was so pissed with them it took me years to even bother checking them out again (around Time of the Oath actually). Never accepted Deris as a good replacement either. His voice was perfect for Pink Cream 69, that type of band, hard rock. As a replacement for Kiske... No.

Really?

This is definitely the worst case of selling out I can remember. By none other than extreme metal and avant garde metal pioneers Celtic Frost. 

On music merit alone, this is a 2.5 album IMO at best (not that I remember it well, just the impression it left me). As a CF album, it's a one-star, avoid-like-the-plague album.

Maybe I'm biased! 

 

Those two are generally the two worst received of the bunch.

 

...almost anything released after Roots are worse in my book. "Roots" has it�s moments.

I like (half of) Roots as well but this is just plain wrong man! 

Those three are actually the only ones I've heard entirely, never had the need to get more. The best thing on Roots is definitely Max's voice. I hope it was like that on the earlier albums.

I actually like some of the albums in that poll: 

Deep Purple's Slaves and Masters is quite nice (although I think it's their weakest album);

Kreator's renewal is quite good if you ask me;

 Queensryche's Q2k is not bad at all, I'd rather listen to this to OM2 or their horrid covers album (Take Cover), 

Megadeth's Risk is alright (yes, it's one of their weakest efforts, but I find their next one far worse).

Queen's Hot Space is not that bad either (it's Queen's worst indeed, but it's got some nice, catchy tunes like Dancer, Back chat, Action this day, Calling all Girls, Life is Real, las Palabras de Amor,  Under pressure - hey, not bad at all! )

I find Iron Maiden's Virtual XI, The Final Frontier and Dance of Death quite uninspired and boring.

Def Leppard has got some boring albums as well (their albums after Slang, their last one takes the cake).

 

...just wait until I get the time to review Renewal. The rating will go up considerably after that.

 

...you were right to include Renewal on the list though. It is indeed one of the most controversial albums in the band�s discography.

Same here, I prefer the first 5 albums over their later albums immensely. I still enjoy their later albums sometimes though if I'm in the mood.
