If you want, as far as non-metal goes my favorite 2014 album has to be deadmau5's 'While (1<2)'. A true masterpiece of electronic music, probably the best electronic album I've heard actually.

I didn't buy all that many 2014 albums (somewhere between 20-30) and I thought overall it was a disappointing year.
1. Within Temptation - Hydra 2. Teramaze - Esoteric Symbolism 3. Threshold - For The Journey 4. Eluveitie - Origins 5. Vanden Plas - Chronicles Of The Immortals, vol.1 heh, none of my top-5 even made UMUR's list. 2015 should be a much better year.

1. Nightingale - Retribution 2. Soen - Tellurian 3. Enchant - The Great Divide 4. Threshold - For the Journey 5. Helstar - This Wicked Nest honorable mentions (I'll just list the bands that released albums last year) - Distorted Harmony, Anubis Gate, Eldritch, Vanden Plas, Freak Kitchen, Mothership, Tankard, Steve Rothery. I'll be back if I forgot someone And as a non-metal, non-prog release, Simple Minds' last album simply entitled Big Music is currently a personal favorite.
