I agree - it may be unfair to judge the campaign at this point. However, with this much money being poured into it, I think a little pro-activity is required in terms of predicting the future of the organization.

Also, I couldn't imagine this campaign accomplishing anything unless it ventures into "unconstitutional territory" (taxing soda because it's "unhealthy", banning bagged lunches, requiring extra nutrition labels on foods, etc.). If stuff like that starts to happen (which it arguably has), then I'll have an even bigger issue with the campaign.

Sludge metal is focused on the "sludgy" sound. Heavy, fuzzy, distorted. Generally dirty and noisy sounding.
Songs can be all over the place of course but they tend to be slower to mid paced, some bands are very doomy. A lot of the "mountain man" vocal style. If you're not sure what I mean listen to Mastodon (early) for a good example. Vocals are generally strained, a lot use "hardcore" style.

Post Metal is an outgrowth of it.
Do you know what post rock is like? If so it's easiest to say take post rock and add metal (the sludgy guitar sound) lol
Post metal is much less focused on skill and madness, but atmosphere and subtle progression. Longer songs, often with light/heavy alternating sections, atmospheric, building.
Isis is the best example of a straight up post metal band. Walls of chords, light/heavy interplay, atmospheric with buildings songs. Harsh vocals.    Cult of Luna and Pelican are both great and show different styles.

Avant...well no one knows. IMO its pretty much a dumping ground for bands we cant identify/really out there ones.
Really that's the best definition. Bands that may be rooted in metal or have metal parts but are waaaay out there...even for prog standards.

Any questions, especially about post metal, and I will try to answer them. I am better with rambling banter than one post answers LOL

My usual example of avant metal is Unexpect, but that sort of leaves out the jazzier stuff like Shining.

I also just realized that Guapo was on MMA.

I heard this joke earlier today... I thought it was pretty funny! LOL

A young woman teacher explains to her class of third graders that she is a born-again Christian. She asks the class if any of them are born-again Christians too.

Not really knowing what it means to be born-again, but wanting to please and impress their teacher, many little hands suddenly shot up into the air. There was, however, one exception. A girl named Sarah had not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asked her why she has decided to be different.

"Because I'm not a Christian."

"Then," asks the teacher, "what are you?"

"I'm an atheist."

The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Sarah why she is an atheist.

"It's just that my family isn't religious. My Mom is atheist, and my Dad is atheist, so I am atheist."

The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason." she says loudly. "What if your Mom was a moron, and your Dad was a moron. What would you be then?"

"Then," says Sarah, "I'd be a born-again Christian."

Sorry if this offends anyone. Tongue

I already didn't like Soilwork.

Add the fact Peter Wichers was largely responsible for Nevermore's last album being so mediocre.
Now, Soilwork dropped out of the Symphony X Concert. I am fine with this, but Nevermore has as well Angry
