Aside from music as a whole, another true love of mine is video games. This is just a thread where we can express our love of video games, post what games we're playing, give recommendations, and discuss just about anything else you wish.

I've been really into these games lately:

I'm definitely a fan of video games, and have a decent sized collection.  That being said, I was always a few years behind when it came to console systems.  The newest gaming system I own is an original X-Box.  I do enjoy collecting older games and systems.  Here is a list of the systems I own:

- X-Box
- Nintendo GameCube
- NES
- GameBoy Advance (also plays GameBoy and GameBoy Color games)
- Sega Genesis
- Sega Dreamcast
- Sony Playstation

My brother also has a few systems I ocasionally use (Playstation 2, Super NES).  I used to own a few retro systems with a ton of games that I regret getting rid of when I was a teenager (Atari 2600, Sega Master System).  One of the first game systems I ever owned was a Coleco Gemini system I saw at a flea market (which I don't own anymore).  It was a system designed to run Atari games.

I didn't own a video game system until I got a GameBoy when I was around 11, so before then I just had to marvel at the video games my friends owned.  I soon found a Nintendo at a yard sale, and enjoyed that for a while as well.  I had gotten rid of that Nintendo, but reacquired another one about 6 months ago.

My fondest video game memory is when my brother and I saved up our allowances and bought an original Playstation.  We bought it at Canadian tire back when they used to sell toys. Smile

Sweet! I like retro gaming systems myself. I've got an old Xbox, Gamecube, 'Pikachu' Nintendo 64 and a pokemon limited edition Gameboy Colour. I'm now looking for some Sega systems; the Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast appeal to me very much. I also wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of Atari's machines.

Being part of the younger generation that I am, the oldest systems I usually play are from the PSX/N64 era. I do enjoy some SNES and NES stuff, but most of my gaming tends to be from the last 15 years or so. I started out gaming with a PlayStation2, so I set my standards pretty high in terms of graphics, controls, etc...

Then again, the original Doom is in my top 5 games ever...

I had an Intellivision when I was a kid.  That is the only gaming system that I have ever owned.  I've considered getting a newer system so that I could play some of the newer sports games that I see the commercials for and such but I doubt that I will actually ever get around to it.

I own an X-Box game that compiles a ton of the old Intellivision games on it.  Many of the games I honestly have no idea how to play.  LOL  The game "Shark, Shark" is cute.

I'm also big into sports games, but have always been behind the times.  The only time I actually had some current sports games was when they still released games for the original Playstation and X-Box, so the newest ones I own are NHL 07, NHL 2K7, and NBA 2K7.  I love playing NBA-Jam (regular and tournament edition) and the EA Sports NHL games (I believe my brother and I have all of them combined for the Genesis).  The best part of the old ones is that the Leafs actually had some pretty great teams (particularly on NHL 94 with Gilmour, Clark, Andreychuk, and Potvin among others).

I've never been a huge fan of sports games... I enjoy some the Madden games from time to time, but most of the major sports franchises rehash the same formula each year. Not to mention that I don't care a whole lot for sports either.

I'm thinking about dusting off my N64 once I finish up Red Dead Redemption and Condemned. I can't wait to revisit some classics like Goldeneye 007, Super Mario 64, and Super Smash Bros. Smile

Any other N64 games you guys would recommend picking up before then?

I'm honestly struggling to remember some of the N64 games I once had in my collection.  I recall playing Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart 64 and the ones you mentioned.  I don't have much experience with the system myself.

DK64 is great! I remember really loving that game when I was about 11 years old...

I also used to really like Mario Kart 64, but it's pretty shallow overall.

I can't believe Ocarina of Time slipped my mind as well.  It's commonly considered the top game of the system, and even the top Zelda game ever.  I haven't even played half the Zelda games, so I can't say it's the best.  The only ones I've played off the top of my head are Ocarina, Link To The Past, and Wind Waker.  Plus I'm pretty familiar with Majora's Mask since my sister owns it.

I've played through a bit of it last night, and it seems pretty good!

The controls take some getting used to, and the save/checkpoint system is pretty frustrating though...

I didn't know that you could still rent games for Game Cube.

I remember the first video game i rented was Jungle Book for GameBoy.  It was at the grand opening of a video game store (which has since closed down).  It was really packed that day, but every other time I went in there it was pretty much just my brother and me.  The store, from the chain Microplay, lasted a lot longer than I thought it would (I'd guess 12 years).

It was from my library. Big smile That place has a HUGE selection of games for free 1-week rentals. I've literally played dozens of games that way.

From what I remember, my local library only has a handful of games, all of which are from the latest generation of consoles.  They have an annual library sale that is often used to get rid of some of the older or neglected material.  It's coming up in the beginning of November, but they either never sell old video games or they are bought very early on.  I still look forward to going for the books and music. There's always a nice buy to be had. Big smile

I tend to dislike a lot of newer games. I think that, while the graphics and other aesthetic dimensions are impressive, the gameplays are often weak and boring. I guess I'm old school when it comes to computer games.

I picked up 3 NES games at the flea market: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DuckTales, and Tecmo Bowl.  TMNT works fine, but the other 2 are still battling dust problems so I'll have to clean them.

I got Duck Tales going, but Tecmo Bowl is still causing some problems.  I haven't played my NES in around 5 months, and I find it takes frequent use to keep it in working order.  I'll keep chipping away at it, but now I'm out of breath. LOL

If I have some time, I might crack open the system and give it a proper cleaning (never have yet).  Someday I'll plunk down the money and get a top loading version of NES to avoid some of the common problems.

I finally got all the Nintendo games I bought to work.  I had to open up the system and loosen the connector pins so they'd spring back into position.  The only downside is that the games are held in too tightly, so it may scratch the contacts of the games.  I'll try to flatten the contacts just a little bit to avoid this as much as I can.  The games also run much better (better than they ever did) when you don't push down the spring holder for the game.

The things I have to go through for my old-school fix ... LOL

I played a bit of StarTropics today on NES.  It's a fun game, and probably one of the best (at least in terms of story and depth) in my tiny Nintendo collection.

I might head to the nearest Cash Converters (pawn shop) tomorrow to see what they have.

Brotherhood is epically fun, so i beat it twice
my favorites though, have to be:

 fallout 3 (beat twice)
AC: Brotherhood (the multilayer is so unique, which make is epic)
Mass effect 2 ( beat twice)
fallout: New Vegas (playing)
Mirrors Edge (beautiful game, multiple play-throughs )
Balltefield Bad Company 2 (love the multiplayer)
Red Dead Redemption (got 100% in undead nightmare DLC)
Cod 4 ( best call of duty game IMO, just has a certain feel to it that the other cod games haven't been able to give)

play all my games on the 360, spend alot of time playing vdeo games.

NHL09 for PC must be the worst bug-riddled piece of shit ever released. The actual hockey part is pretty fun despite some mostly non-bug problems, but it's so painfully apparent that the makers didn't give a crap about the PC version. There isn't even a patch to fix the issues, but there is one for Xbox and PS2 or 3 or whatever it was on.

For the second time in two days the game crashed in the dying minutes of a winning game, I didn't bother to play them again but lost both in simulation. Yay.

The only game I've been playing lately is NBA2K11 (PS2) in franchise co-op mode with by brother.

It's weird that it never occurred to my brother and I to play co-op instead of versus modes in sports video games until 2 years ago in university.  The game that got us into co-op playing? The classic NHL 94 on Sega Genesis.

^ Wow, they still make PS2 games? I wasn't aware that there were any new sports games on PS2.

I didn't think so either, but it turns out they do.  I'm not in the position to buy any new systems, so I'll make due with that (actually, it's my brother's game and system).

Instead, your entire system stopped working not because someone sabotaged it, but because your hardware sucks.

I've gotten the Red Ring of Death 3 fucking times. I'll gladly admit that PS3 has better hardware... and they don't have to pay $60 a year for their online service either.

Xbox has better exclusive games, though. Big smile

Indeed!

But speaking of PC, do any of you guys have a Steam account?  One of my favorite games, Team Fortress 2, is now free to play.  And if you didn't know already, downloading Steam is also free.  I'm 100% a PC gamer, no consoles for me (at least for online play).  These are the games I'm playing now:

I've also been messing around with indie games like: Super Meat Boy, Braid, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, and Limbo.  Pretty sweet.  Thumbs Up

Oh, and my Steam name is Xaxaar (what a surprise) on Steam if anyone of ya wanted to add me.

Yeah I'm on steam, most of what I play is Pirates Vikings and Knights II but I've had L4D2, Super Meat Boy, Magicka, Alien Swarm, Dead Space, Bioshock 1 and 2, Mass Effect 1 and 2 and HL2DM (among other things) going recently.  I'll add you tomorrow

Are you the one with Ziltoid avatar?

I am now playing Gran Turismo 5.  Zooming around at 240 mph in a Bugatti listening to a custom playlist.  In it, "The Number of the Beast" by Iron Maiden.  It's actually a fitting song to listen to while driving a car that's like 980-some horsepower. Headbanger

Picked up a few bargain basement games for the X-Box:

Project: Snowblind ($1.99)

NFL Head Coach ($0.99)

I haven't played many videogames in the past several months, so I'll try these out.  Plus, I busted out the Dreamcast to play some Crazy Taxi.
