Pain of Salvation by just a bit. I love Opeth dearly, but The Perfect Element, Be, Remedy Lane, and Scarsick (yes, Scarsick) are some of my all-time favorite albums.

I voted PoS: They have many, many, many more moments that affect me than Opeth. Besides, I find Opeth a bit dull sometimes.

Pain of Salvation for me. A funny thing to say on a metal site, but I don't get the appeal of growls. Damnation is the only Opeth album that I can really listen to. -------------

Growls are something that's definitely an acquired taste. I personally love them (when done well), but I can fully understand why some people don't like it. Finally gone for PoS! Opeth are so bloody brilliant, but PoS get me on a higher, more emotional level overall. Still two of my top ever bands.

PoS make use of some cheap melodies and are too pretentious (even for me, that says something) in general IMO. They are very skilled musicians, though, and put those skills to use all the time, I guess that's what gets people. PRE-Watershed Opeth hands down! Opeth for me easily. I really like PoS, 'Entropia' is one of my favorite debut albums, but Opeth has the better discography. PoS's 'BE' and 'Road Salt One' are among the worst albums I've ever heard.
