Let's get superficial here for a bit, and judge albums by the covers. I've always liked Blot Thrower's covers, but that's probably because I used to be quite into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000 - Warhammer 40K . Most of their artworks were made for the use of Games Workshop (who produce the Warhammer/ 40K games), and are used by the band with their permission.  One of the more iconic covers to me is Hypocrisy's Osculum Obscenum, though the logo is anything but readable.  What album covers do you like? Or, why not, what albums covers do you really hate? -------------

Why superficial? I feel album covers and artwork in general really strengthens the mood of an album. I assume you're into Black Twilight projects? That Volahn album is pretty good, but I never got into Axeman. Arizmenda is probably the best I've heard of the bunch. Can't say I'm deeply into the BT bands but they're interesting most certainly. |

| Yeah the Black Twilight is really great. Arizmenda rules as well as almost every BT band. But as for Black Metal in general I perfer raw bm and for the last while been digging the raw punk-ish black metal. |

| Raw noisy BM has its great bands for sure. I love many of the rather new bands such as Cirrhus, Furdidurke and Roman Cross. I tend to have times in my life when I basically don't listen to anything else than pure filth, be it in the form of noisy black metal or actual noise / pe. |

| I would believe so, it tends to be quite common with limited edition underground BM releases, not hard to do because so little amount of copies. Blood is okay, but I try to avoid noise (or related) releases that come with other bodily fluids, too nasty for me... |

Some metal thrashing mad covers (sorry, but I'm in the thrash zone right now!) Thrown to the wolves or what?!  There's nothing like a devastated city, is there?  Arty, but not farty.  Comic-book art (isn't that taken from a zombie-movie?)  Violence, demons. What more can you wish for?  Nothing wrong with a bit of humor.  Ditto.  Might not be pretty, but the idea is wicked - and it's an iconic album cover.  So retro, it hurts... but it hurts soooo good! Er, I mean.... cough cough.  Kinda surreal. I like it.  Gore!!!! But much cooler than most, if not all, goregrind covers I've seen.  Eerie, and sort of links up with the "Practice What You Preach" cover art.  Back to the humor... I think.  This one even tells a wee story.  He really needs a manicure.  Iconic! And awesome!  Likewise!  Yes, I actually like the cover. Yes, I also like the album.  Rattlehead interacting with politicians... cool!  Overall great concept behind the artwork.  E.T. never phone home.  Hellfire and disembowelment - that's so metal!  Abstract art involving skulls - that's so metal!  Blasphemy - that's so metal!  Friggin' awesome sci-fi cover.  Another awesome iconic cover.  It's all about the attitude on this one... and Rob's bermudas.  I like how it's sort of shattered.  Anti-capitalist metal!  So ugly it's cool.  Cover says it all. -------------

Not Metal but I have to post this because it is one of my all time favorite covers, period. Seriously! This may be darker than 95% of all metal covers out there.  You guys have the classic metal feel down, so how bout something a little different? Oceanic by Isis. I love this cover. Powerful in its simplicity.  And when you think about it, pretty metal. Lots of awesome covers here, I would also like to agree w/ what someone said, that Dan Seagrave's are usually good!! Black metal bands, it would seem, almost always have killer ones... gotta love that one by Emperor[their first]. There was one I saw by some other band, forget what they're called, but it had two muppets on the cover w/ one say "I'm going to kill myelf." Highly amusing! |
