Does your music taste better with a good set of headphones on your ears or with a powerful set of speakers driving your neighbors crazy?

I usually listen to CD/digital files on my headphones since they sound better than my computer speakers.  For vinyl, I play it out loud on my speakers on my turntable in the living room.

Because I am always on the move, I prefer headphones. Also, I do not like to bother my neighbors.

I neither have the time nor the opportunity to use my stereo system very often, so most of my music listening is done in the car, on a cheap CD/ipod player in the kitchen or on my ipod, so it would be headphones for me. I prefer listening to music on a real stereo system though.

Yeah, listening to music on a real, good stereo while sitting in a comfortable armchair... that's something I haven't experienced for quite a long time. Several years spent in student hostels have changed me Stern Smile Now I'm really into headphones, I just don't like disturbing anyone with my music. Besides, the sound is usually better... and it doesn't change when you leave the room with your player on Wink Unless you forget about the headphones plugged in your laptop, rise from the table and walk away...

I say speakers because I think my ears endure quite substantial abuse from the noiser side of my collection without headphones, and I'd hate to experience that much sound in the confines of headphones, regardless of how much I enjoy it.

Also, there's nothing quite as satisfying as hearing your room shake with heavy bass vibrations. Well, there probably is, but that's one plus for speakers in my opinion.

Speakers, at least for one practical reason: my right ear is deaf, so I can't listen musict with headphones, unless I accept to not to hear half of the instruments and half of the frequencies...

Pretty much the same thing for me.

I find myself using headphones more often since they're more portable (obviously), but I much prefer speakers. Whenever I'm at home listening to music, I try to use either my stereo (in my basement) or my fairly good boombox (in my bedroom). I just don't get nearly as much satisfaction out of headphones.

Love headphones.

...Speakers if I'm driving my car, though

Same with me.  Speakers are better if I'm just listening casually (driving, writing, reading, gaming, etc.), but I find that I get to know my music a lot better if I'm listening with headphones, so that's what I voted for.  I don't have a primo home stereo system though, so this might change once I get the money to upgrade my mediocre pair of computer speakers.

I've never really gotten a kick out of that. I actually dislike really loud music played on loudspeakers, regardless of the genre. It's not very metal, I know.

Both equally for me, I have no real preference. If I'm on my main PC in my room, it's speakers. If I'm on my laptop, which lives in the living room, it's usually headphones.

I'm in the same boat as you, Kim.

Speakers - nothing compares with the experience a good sound system gives you. the nasty part is that you need original CDs or burnt lossless files for best quality

Speakers, especially when it's this thing: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/341/sony530wminishelfsystem.png/" rel="nofollow">

...gives out great bass which is terrific seeing as I'm really into psychedelic trance music and other bass-heavy forms of music.Big smile Still, I would like to upgrade eventually to an even more luxurious form of speakers and audio quality...
