This is a terrific thread.  I wish that metal was still my main squeeze so I could be more convincing with my choices.

1993: Don't really have one, I guess I could go with Individual Thought Patterns but it's been FOREVER since I've actually listened to it, and despite its greatness I wouldn't consider it one of my current or all-time favorites.

1994:

1995:

1996:

1997:

1998:

1999:

2000:

...I guess.

2001:

2002: Don't have one for this year either.  Not one of metal's better years IMO, although that's just taste.

2003:

2004:

2005:

2006:

2007:

This one took some thinking because I don't actually own this album (yet), but it was between this and a Porcupine Tree album which I don't consider to be metal...then again, I don't think Deadwing is metal either, but I didn't have anything else for 2005, so whatever.

2008: Nada.

2009:

2010:

2011:

2012: Can't say yet.

Not a very diverse list, but it just seems like all of my favorite metal albums came out on overlapping years.

Didn't you say you were like a hundred years old anyway? Tongue

Cool idea for a thread.  I'll throw a list together soon, but there are some years where I'm not that familiar with metal.  For example, in my birth year (1985), the only metal album I have on my computer is Megadeth's Killing Is My Business, so I might have a few defaults like that on the list.
