I don't like Nu Metal. But I think that the Prog Metal can be mixed with every other metal genre. Actually exist something like Prog Nu Metal?

Insofar as System of a Down are a nu metal band at all, I think that some of the tracks on "Toxicity" are kinda progressive.

Coheed are definatley proggy but I can't hear any Nu Metal in them, more of a pop-punk/emo basis to my ears.

Not only Toxicity, but pratically their entire discog is very proggy.

I honestly don't think it can here's why.
Nu Metal is pretty specific.
How far can you push it? It's like melodic death metal...after so far, it's not really even close to death metal and is just "prog" metal.

Also SoaD was never nu metalAngry
can someone please tell me why the title was applied, and still sticks????
the heavy, simple riffing? OK sure, but song structure wise, they were pretty out there. Alt/prog metal.

Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

Listen to doom metal, worship Satan

I imagine its just because of when their debut came out, the production sound on it and who they toured with at the time.
If that was the only info you had to go on, it'd be easy to lump them in as Nu Meta, especially if you were a lazy journalist and didn't listen closely enoughl.

Slipknots debute album from 1996 is progy according to a Angry Scotsman and i must agree, they also have a progy live show, one of the best live bands i have seen imo

^Yes, Angry Scotsman is right. The first album of Slipknot is very experimental, with some Primus like songs and odd song structures. Too bad they became a nu metal band...

Maximum the Hormone has a pretty, if not progressive, then at least different approach to Nu Metal.

Judging by the samples here on MMA, Maximum the Hormone seems to be a good band:  ../maximum-the-hormone.aspx" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/maximum-the-hormone.aspx

With a progressive edge, btw.

They're definitely among my favorite bands.

^They are very ecletic. Why don't move them to avant-garde?

I definitely think that some of their tracks have an avant-garde touch to them.

norwegain act Ddsverk is probably the most progressive "nu-metal" sounding band in existence, they make Deftones seem bland and Korn seem like well normal

I second earthtone9 (who are added now Smile) as some of their albums could be a progressive / nu metal mix.

Probably Arc-Tan-Gent or its follow up

Mudvayne and Deftones perhaps, but i always saw them more as alternative metal bands in the vein of Tool, as opposed to nu metal

^Well, Tool is prog metal...

Mudvayne for sure; nothing fits the bill better than their first two albums.

Go back and listen to LD.50 and TEOATTC nowadays, look at the song and album structures, the concepts, their presentation live and all that. They're closer to the spirit of prog than the spirit of nu metal.

Their 2009 self titled album was slightly prog-ish with some L.D. 50 esque interludes and time sigs, definitely more progressive than "The New Game" and "Lost and Found" which are what i would label as pop metal.

Disturbed has a lot of progressive stuff, particularly on the album "Believe". They graduated from Nu Metal a bit early though and became more of an Alternative Metal band.

Isn´t the line a bit blurry there? Alternative metal to me is more of an umbrella genre that includes among other Things NU metal. On topic I can´t say I ever heard anything that I considered progressive about Disturbed. As far as I know most of their songs are pretty much regular vers/chorus structured and not very adventurous when it comes to incorporating other types of sections. I might be wrong though, I´m not exactly an Expert on the topic Tongue

I can't deny the grey areas of "Alternative" but I would suggest giving another listen to "Believe". The song structures may have been somewhat standard, but the grooves are complex and play around with some interesting time signatures. If they had gone further in that direction, I think people would have started calling them "Progressive".

There's a band from Arizona called Sicmonic that mixes nu metal with progressive metal. I think they're quite good, actually, and deserve more recognition.

Yes, that's them. They're not traditional nu metal, but they do have a strong nu metal element to their sound in many songs.

A couple of years ago I had some correspondence with one of the Guys from the band. I think it was the bassist and we ended up adding them to Prog Archives ( http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5342" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5342 ) and I wrote a review for their second album. A pretty good album as far as I remember (and from what I can read from my review). I haven´t listened to the album since though. Might be time to dust it of and give it a listen Again.
