Thought I would throw this topic out to the masses and see where it goes. Top 3 favorite cover songs done that you've heard. Why three? So, it could introduce enough songs from the "hopeful" responses to get some conversations started without inundating the forum all at once with lists so long that no one will read them. I'll start off with 3 of my favorites: Mexican Radio (Wall of Voodoo) - Celtic Frost I love the raw sound of it and the fact of them goofing off for a change. Children of the Grave (Black Sabbath) - White Zombie Love the production on it. Makes an already great song better. Blitzkrieg (Diamond Head) - Metallica Probably my favorite of all the Diamond Head covers Metallica did. Hmmm. Just thinking. I used to have a mix tape, back in the day, that my friend Jeff did for me that had every one of the "ooohs" and "heys" that Tom Warrior of Celtic Frost ever dropped into a song all run together. I remember listening to it the first time and laughing so hard that Pepsi shot right out of my nose. Hilarious s#it. Obituary - Circle Of The Tyrants (Celtic Frost cover) is the first one that springs to mind.

I usually don�t appreciate cover songs much, but here�s a couple that I think are pretty great: Defleshed playing "Red Hot" by M�tley Crue Here�s Benediction playing "Forged in Fire" by Anvil. That Nevermore cover of Love Bites is certainly thinking out of the box and making it their own song..... Three more covers that I dig I Want You (She's So Heavy) The Beatles - Coroner I love their take on the song, it just works for me. Burn Deep Purple - WASP Not my fav cover that they've done (The Real Me takes that one) but It captures DPs energy Screaming For Vengeance Judas Priest - Sepultura Raw and aggressive...whats not to like? ------------- I got Rock N Roll to save me from the cold, and if thats all there is, that aint so bad. I forgot about this cover, this is awesome!  It's done by a guy who chats on a couple of guitar forums that I frequent. He's a talented guy, I met him at a forum jam and he played (and sang) Night Ranger's 'Don't Tell Me You Love Me' pretty much note-for-note the very first song he performed. I think I actually like this one much more than the original: Not sure I'd say they're favourites because I can't say I pay much attention to covers but a couple of decent covers worth mentioning here IMO, and the only two I instantly thought of.

Still really like all these covers, but top 3 now would probably be this: Judas Priest - Diamonds and Rust (Joan Baez cover) Riot - Born to Be Wild (Steppenwolf cover) Soundgarden - Smokestack Lightning (Howlin' Wolf cover) 3 Honorable mentions that aren't in that last post: Metallica - Crash Course in Brain Surgery (Budgie cover) Anthrax - Phantom Lord (Metallica cover) Korn - Earache My Eye/Scatterbrain - Earache My Eye (Cheech and Chong cover) Korn's cover actually sounds a bit like Cathedral, particular with the vocals having a very Lee Dorian-esque exuberance to them. ------------- If I say fuck two more times that's forty-six fucks in this fucked up rhyme |

I did not actually know this was a cover at first, because my promo material for the album neglected to include that information. I don't know the original. ^Never heard that cover before, but it's one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs so I'll make sure to check it out. I do love their slowed down cover of Paranoid.
