Alright, this gets listed about once a month in the PA forums for desert island prog albums, so let me be the first to suggest this thread for the Metal Music Archives.  If you were stranded on a desert island with  no internet service and your satellite dish and laptop sunk to the bottom of the ocean along with the rest of your worldly possessions except for an iPod with an endless supply of power but only 2 GB of memory what 10 to 20 Metal albums would you want to have on it while you play Robinson Crusoe/Gilligan and forge a new life out of coconut trees, fish, and small game animals?

Off the top of my head:

System of a Down - Mezmerize
System of a Down - Hypnotize
Iron Maiden - Brave New World
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye
maudlin of the Well - Leaving Your Body Map
maudlin of the Well - Bath
Mokoma - Kuoleman laulukunnaat
Type O Negative - Life is Killing Me
Tool - Lateralus
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Opeth - Watershed
Black Sabbath - Sabotage

I'm stopping here so I can later add few of the ones I forgot now... Lots of bands I left out, but compared to these I could very well live without them if I was going to starve to death anyway.

Pride stand out in my memory...  but really liked the group back then.  Really looking forward to rebuilding a collection.  I had all those albums... but I had a bad drinking problem to support and pawned my album collection.  Some I rebought later.. some i didn't.

ohhhh... dinner is served.  God Raff can cook...

Pride has Hungry, Wait, Lady of the Valley, and the absolutely gorgeous tear jerker When The Children Cry.  They also do a pretty good cover of Radar Love on one of their follow up albums.

Definitely but metal and black go hand in hand.  Although with race wars, we are pretty limited to Living Colour and King's X and Ice-T.

Not too difficult for a retro old-timer like me:

2112 - Rush (on constant repeat via solar-powered speakers if Micky was stuck on the island with me )
Rainbow Rising - Rainbow
Machine Head - Deep Purple
Van Halen - Van Halen
Tokyo Tapes - Scorpions
IV - Led Zep

ok, so they're not real Metal albums, so sue me on my desert island!

Watershed - Opeth
The Neverending Way of ORwarriOr - Orphaned Land
err...

I like "Proto-Metal" most...

in no particular order (but if I was to take 10 albums on a desert island at this point in my life, they would not be metal albums)

Sad Wings Of Destiny
Rainbow Rising
Paranoid
Van Halen (deb)
Iron Maiden (deb)
Hard & Heavy (Anvil)
Secret Treaties
What's Next (Mahogany Rush)
A Farewell To Kings
Rage Against The Machine (deb)

and an unlikely one for those who know me)
Kill The Lights (Lowercase)

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicted musicians to crazy ones....

^^^^^^^^

I deliberately avoided Zep, Aerosmith, Purple & Heep, because they're not really that metal

BTW, I noticed that the first six in my list are either the debut or the sophomore album in the group's discography.

Amorphis - Skyforger
Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine: Biomech

Those are the only two metal albums I would want to listen to for who-knows-how-long, based on their depth and the fact that I will be on that island for an indefinite amount of time.  I was actually going to make a desert island reference in my review of Ocean Machine, but it was never written.  I really gotta get around to doing that.

^The premise was 10 - 20 albums...I guess you´ve reached that limit by now Big smile. But I know the feeling. I don´t think I would be able to chose either...an impossible task.

In no particular order but the ones towards the top obviously came to mind first:

FNM-Angel Dust
GNR-Appetite
Priest-Unleashed
Slayer-South of Heaven
Morbid Angel-Blessed are the Sick
Deicide-s/t
Death-Symbolic
Angel Witch-s/t
Black Sabbath-Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Mercyful Fate-Melissa
Skid Row-Slave to the Grind
Megadeth-Countdown to Extinction
Opeth-My Arms, Your Hearse
Helloween-Keeper of the 7 Keys Part 2
Emperor-Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk
Cradle of Filth-Cruelty and the Beast
Alice in Chains-Dirt
Led Zeppelin-Physical Graffiti
Rush-2112
King Diamond-Conspiracy

That is 20. That was difficult. The first 3 are always close to my mind, regardless of genre discussed.
I would gladly take poor quality copies so I could stretch my gigs. :)

^I think there are a couple of yours I´d probably also put on my list. "Dirt" in particular, but also "South of Heaven", "Appetite" and "Blessed". I´d probably pick "Abigail" and not "Conspiracy" and "Don´t Break the Oath" over "Melissa", but yeah King Diamond would also be heavily represented on my list.
