Picture the circus entry in Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked this Way Comes. Hear that uncanny jingle of the carousel? This sound is the embodiment of New York’s native Neurobox, a five piece band whose music speaks for itself. The ten year old Neurobox has come a long way both literally and musically.
In the summer of 2002, vocalist K’noup, guitarist Carlos Alvarado, and drummer “H," decided to move from New York to Los Angeles in hopes to further expand the wicked noise of Neurobox. In Los Angeles, they met two gentlemen who would fulfill the void at bass and keyboards. Enter Kel Swift, who, as his name implies, swiftly adds the baseline and Suguru, the ivory-tickling magician on the keyboards. The five began rehearsing meticulously on the former twenty-four song EP, aptly named Eve. Eve is an enchanting and twisted journey through the precious time of one day, something that is often overlooked and neglected. The band shortly after that began to write as a new element, a new Neurobox. Its development is the twisted sampling three song EP titled justly as Koo Koo Musique.
The music written by Neurobox captures each hour of day, from the brightest shining morning’s hours to the deep dark nights pushing the limits to creativity. Telling the stories of night and day is K’noup, whose ripe melodic and bizarre voice carries significant wit, humor, power and grace. Carlos Alvarado interweaves with his potent melodies on guitar, with fingers like a spider’s legs sprinting cunningly on each strand of the web. The two are backed by an incredibly heavy bass, played by the talented Mr. Kel Swift, whose sly demeanor can charm the eyes as his bass seduces the ears. Suguru scratches away at the ivories on the keyboard, adding a touch of lunacy like prey caught in the web, itching to break free. And in the middle of the spider web is drummer “H,” whose drums vibrate through the masses. The talent is to be seen and heard and these are the only ways to experience Neurobox. Ask anyone that has.
