I think it´s a matter of having listened to a certain style for a number of years. You become more picky, and if you´ve dug Deep enough, you´ve also discovered the history of the genre, which sometimes leads to perceiving "new" artists in the genre as "followers" with very few ideas of their own. I know that´s how I typically feel, and I therefore tend to be a bit reluctant towards new artists. They at the very least have to prove something extraordinary (high level songwriting, musicianship...etc) for me to clap my hands, like I used to when I listened to the artists who invented the style.
