I've only played each once. Mastodon was quite impressive and Opeth's may need a few listens to sink in. I expect I'll cover both of those sooner rather than later.

I don't really know how to answer that.  It does help though that I get a lot of given to me for free from the labels and promoters. Actually, the list is the reviewed albums only. The actual number of albums I've heard released this year is 60 exactly. |

I just picked up the new Epica album, 'The Quantum Enigma'
I need to give it a couple of more listens, but this may be their best album yet. My past favorite has been 'Design Your Universe' I'm not a huge Epica fan, but I do think that they've gotten much better since the addition of guitarist Isaac Delahaye. All 3 albums he's been on have been pretty good, much better than the previous stuff. I still like Epica better as a live band, because it strips away all of those choir-like choruses that they do on the albums (which are generally too over-the-top, imo).
