Someone should start a 2014 music thread, or is April too early?

I generally look forward to DTguitarfan's posts/reviews, but I haven't seen him on here lately...

I was thinking it was getting around that time to start a best of 2014 so far type thread. I don't think April is too early. I started last year's 2013 in metal thread in March. If you want to start one go ahead, otherwise I'll most likely do one myself at some point.

dtguitarfan doesn't get around here much lately, but you can still follow him via RYM. Although I haven't seen him review much lately he has commentary on his already 68 albums long 2014 list: https://rateyourmusic.com/~dtguitarfan

Yep I´m looking forward to that one too. Overkill have consistenly been putting out albums since their inception, so it´s no surprise that "White Devil Armory" is released relatively close to the release of "Electric Age". While I´m not equally fond of each and every album they´ve released, they have some killer albums in their discography. Including the last two. Horrorscope is my favorite though.

I just picked up:

Teramaze - Esoteric Symbolism
Delain - The Human Contradiction

I must say, the Teramaze is probably my album of 2014 so far, killer stuff. Excellent riffing from the guitarist. Prog metal but not the shredding prog metal like Dream Theater/Circus Maximus/Seventh Wonder/etc. More like heavy on the riffs, clean singing (no cookie monster vox ) and some short n' sweet solos.

Taken as a whole, some of the songs start to sound alike, which would lead me to not give it a 5-star rating, probably a 4.5, but an excellent album none the less.

Delain's album is probably their best yet, too. Heavier than 'We Are The Others', yet still somewhat a companion album to that one. Let's face it, Delain will never satisfy the fans of brutal metal. But for what Delain are, this album is pretty darned good.

I know this isn't metal related, but I am so psyched for Pink Floyd's 'The Endless River'
First album in 20 years!

I'm excited for it as well Smile

As far as metal goes I'm really looking forward to hearing Opeth's new album 'Pale Communion' I loved Heritage, and from what I heard with 'Cusp of Eternity' It sounded somewhat similar. Smile

I'm afriad I'd have to listen to Opeth before Their new album.
Too busy being introduced to IQ, King Crimson, and Tool all at once.

Well when you start listening to Opeth, I would suggest starting with Ghost Reveries, Heretiage, Still-Life, or Watershed. Tongue

Anyone who knows what is happening with a new Psychotic Waltz album? I thought we would get a new one in 2014, but apparently that wasn´t to be.
