what do you think about putting PT here ?
i guess on their later days, they have a prog metal/alternative metal influence on their music :)

I wouldn't. They do use heavier guitars in their later era but the riffs rarely deviate from standard alternative/prog. Stephen Wilson picks up on his influences a lot and does throw in a few Opeth styled riffs now and then, but never enough that I could consider even just one PT song completely metal.
Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

Let's see what the Prog Metal team has to say.

Personally, I don't think it is a good idea, especially now that the site is struggling to establish its niche on the web. In an ideal world, we would be able to have a 'metal-related' category for bands like PT....

Theres metal on Deadwing (Shallow, Halo) but I will admit the early material had not a shred of distortion. Perhaps unsuited to this site in this instance.
This is metal though:
a cover version but u get the idea

Well, they are on Metal Underground... But, I personally barely even consider them 'hard rock.'

Metal-Related, maybe...

if there's a couple of albums that can be considered metal, I think it would be no harm putting them here along with those albums, and we don't have to put the whole discography as probably their earlier effort are non-metal, however this decision should be taken by prog-metal team :)

Well, if they were added, the entire discography would have to be included, I guess, but then the non-metal releases would be unreviewable.

Seriously! They distort their guitars and now they're a metal band?

I guess that's up to the relevant teams to decide...

OK, let's try to avoid the sort of behaviour that drove many people (including myself) away from PA. Disagreement can be expressed without being sarcastic, and putting down a person's suggestion. Personally, I don't think PT are metal, though their recent albums might be labeled as 'metal-related' - a category we don't have yet. Anyway, as Kim said, this is for the relevant teams to decide.

My opinion says no! I mean, influences on their sound can be heard, but I always thought about PT as a Prog Band despite their heavy sound or no! Approve
