Not seen this in a lot of years. I remembered it having more action. However, it does a really good job of building the background and political tensions occurring before the attack. And when the attack happens, it's still one of the best battle scenes ever made.

OK, so there is literally a head. It could have been a football since it got passed around a lot.

This showed it really was time for Arnie to move on past Conan. A pretty lame effort after the Conan movies, but it does have some moments. Unfortunately, Brigitte Neilsen has the acting charm and ability of a paper bag.

Possibly profound. Possibly just a fucking mess. Really not sure which. Brilliant fight scenes all the way through, but to what purpose?

Oh god, what a bore! The Cat and Mickey Rooney being unintentionally racist were OK, but this is just dull otherwise.

The antidote to Breakfast at Tiffanys. Ultra-violent, at times quite disturbing, and widely misunderstood.

This was a lot better than I expected. Pretty cool for based on a true story. Still can't stand Julia Roberts as an actress though.

Better than I expected. Violent spy thriller, like le Carre on steroids, and it's hard to know which way things are going to fall until the final scene.

Always liked Ernest Borgnine as an actor, but never knew about this movie, for which he quite rightly won a best actor Oscar. I'd always just thought of him as the tough but kindly type, but this is very different, where he shows a lot more range and sensitivity. Not sure it tops Mermaid Man from Spongebob though.

I've neglected this thread of late, mainly because my watching has decreased lately due to reading more. I have watched the following films, though not in this order:
Nicolas Cage has made quite a few gems in the last few years. This isn't one of them. Picked this up more because of the director, but I have seen other work of John le Carré adapted for the screen, although this one renames George Smiley because of rights issues. This one wants to be The Babadook. It's okay, but rather a knock off. Bizarre but compelling. Puts anything Disney has done with this story to shame. Very dark.

Wow, fuck! Great movie! The boxing scenes are great. And even after all these years since it's release, this ended up somewhere I never expected.

You always expect quirky and a bit weird from Wes Anderson. This was both. Not his best, but entertaining enough.

Solid enough but a step down for a Taylor Sheridan production - the mind that brought us the New American Frontier trilogy (Sicario, Hell or High Water & Wind River) along with the Yellowstone TV universe. Bloody weird. Maybe not as arty as it thinks it is, just bloody weird. Kinda enjoyed it but definitely the weakest output so far by Alex Garland. Stars Steven Spielberg's son, Sawyer, which got this one a little attention. Kinda poor horror outing though. Interesting with some genuinely creepy visuals, but I found the overall execution let it down. It needed to reel me in more.

After a slow start, this really gets going. It shows a small slice of life of an English family during World War II. The Axis were still in the ascendancy when this was made, and the end result of the war was still unknown. However, even propaganda master Goebbels himself recognised the value of this movie and used it as an example to German film makers of "how to do it right".

The first talkie to win a best picture Oscar. Also the lowest rated best picture, but I really think Cimarron is far worse. Anyway, there's a bit of pre-Hays Code raunch, drunkenness, and overtly gay characters. The small-town-girls-in-the-big-city story is a bit tired now, but would have been a relevant issue at the time due to rapid urbanisation in the US.

Saw this at the movies when I was 10 or 11, and haven't seen it again since. OK, the story is silly, as it invariably has to be for a movie like this, but it still looks fucking amazing! Love it.
