Other than Scarlett looking absolutely stunning in this movie, I didn´t like it much. The concept was alright, but I often find dystopian society movies unrealistic and a bit silly. If I want to watch a dystopian society movie, I´ll go watch V for Vendetta.

It was OK but the camerawork in the action sequences is nauseating

Michael Bay's main strength is in his casting I think, everything else about his style is too hollywood for me

The Island is the only Michael Bay film I've watched so I'm not in a position to judge him, but I believe he is generally considered one of Hollywood's biggest hacks.

Never gets as extreme as it feels like it could, but I guess they were going for something that still allows you to feel sympathy for the villain (which it succeeds at if that's the case). Not as poor as some have said it is, but it feels like one of those films that just reeks of wasted potential.

For a movie with a basic premise is basically Groundhog Day all over again, this was much better than it probably has a right to be.

Never seen this one before, although I remember desperately wanting to as a kid. Some great underwater and mountaineering stunts, but my favourite would have to be the Citroen 2CV car chase.

Musical time again! This was supposed to be an answer to the excellent Annie Get Your Gun, but it falls a bit short. The story and songs are not near as good. Both movies feature Howard Keel as leading man, which is a problem, as he seems to have zero screen presence. Fucking good singing voice though. Doris Day is brilliant here, but I think Betty Hudson's Annie Oakley just edged her.

I was in a production of this show in 1985. I would have been 12 - second time on stage, first time singing. I don't recall dancing. It was a lot of fun. I've never seen it since, but I knew some of the songs still, even after 36 years. And the guy who played the reluctant drag act Francis Fryer was in the NZ army, and went on to become a beefeater in the Tower of London!

A great looking movie with one brilliant character (Athena) but ends up being a preachy load of arse.

Not a bad little cast but also not much else in this Netflix sci-fi. Slow burning through not much actual plot.

Pretty good noirish mystery thriller.

Crazy and absurd black comedy. I liked parts of the movie, but it wasn´t really my personal poison:

Basically exactly what it said on the tin: borrowing liberally from the story of Superman, but asking the question: what if he turned out to be a force for evil?

It's an okay movie, but nothing special, but at least it gives me an opportunity for RYM Satire:

Brightburn: A 'what if' scenario that asks what happens when the alien child who is adopted on Earth after his spaceship crashes becomes a force for evil rather than good like Superman.

RYM Genre Police: This movie has nothing to do with science fiction. Aliens are not science fiction.

I first saw this years ago. Fun, over-the-top Gremlins rip-off, with the added bonus of gratuitous nudity.
