On Genesis, Abacab and the self-titled are the only two I rarely listen to, although the opening tracks on both are great songs. Too inconsistent and too poppy for my tastes. Albums like Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance that many prog-heads pan have some amazing stuff on them. And I'll even buy in to the love being shown now for Calling All Stations.

I tried getting into Invisible Touch a few months ago, but I still don't like it very much. The Hugh Padgham production is just dreadful IMO, and makes my enjoyment of the album limited. I think a few tracks like Domino and Tonight, Tonight, Tonight could be really cool with a different sound. I just can't see past the synthesized drums and dated keyboards. Unhappy

I agree, 70s Genesis is awesome (even ATTW3).

Have you listened to The Watch? You can trick people that quintet Genesis has reunited LOL

ATTW3 is a favorite of mine too. Some of Phil's best drumming is on that album! Big smile

...and I'm very passively familiar with The Watch. I've heard a song or two on YouTube, but never a full album. Where would you recommend starting?

you can start with their debut album, Ghost (2001) or their last one Tracks from the Alps which has become my favorite from them.

During the day:

I need to re-write my review of this one, my opinion has changed quite a lot in the last few years.

http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/riot/the-privilege-of-power

The sampled intros to some of the tracks are definitely elongated far too much, but otherwise this is an excellent heavy/USPM album. Metal Soldiers could easily be a lost Judas Priest track though.

First listen.

^I should really check out Riot, I've heard of them for quite a while now but never given them a listen.

I'm only just exploring them. Had a promo of the newest one a while back but didn't review it, though I do remember enjoying the album. I basically blind purchased The Privilege of Power off of a local market on Thursday just gone. Definitely recommend you try out both The Privilege of Power and Thundersteel to start with, since you like USPM.
