Dream Theater - Metropolis 2: Scenes from a Memory
I am trying but I just can't seem to get into it
it's an album that needs more listens. First I heard this on cassette back in '99 and sometimes I was listening to one side at a time. Next day side 2. Side 2 started with Home. Later on I bought the CD. I rarely listen to it all in one sitting though.
Seriously, if you're a thrash fan, listen to this album as soon as you can. This is insane how these guys went from a promising band with some excellent tracks on the debut, a fantastic band on their second, to just blowing everything else out of the water. The vocals especially, how "Toto" went from kind of silly sounding on the debut to a fucking screeching air-raid siren that sounds like a combination of UDO and Sound of Perseverence-era Chuck Schuldiner screaming at the speed of light, is nothing short of amazing.

I have tried the multiple listens. I'll try some more though
"Before you see the light you must die!!!!!!!!!!" - Slayer
"Today is born the seventh one, born of woman, the seventh son" - Steve Harris

I used to really like Scenes from a Memory, but really don't care much for it anymore. It's got some great songs like Strange Deja Vu and Home, but there's just way too much filler that just sounds like typical generic Dream Theater. Nothing beats Awake in my book.

Awake is my favorite by Dream Theater
The Beatles - Revolver
"Before you see the light you must die!!!!!!!!!!" - Slayer
"Today is born the seventh one, born of woman, the seventh son" - Steve Harris
^I couldn't understand how Awake couldn't be everyone's favorite DT album. Well unless it's Images and Words I guess, that's a really good album too.
don't be, I've seen DT listeners/fand that put 2000s albums ahead of the Moore era. Ok, I understand for albums like Train of Thought or Octavarium, but not the rest of them.

Well if I'm being honest, I'm not really much of a fan as I don't like most of DT's albums. Awake, I&W, and Train of Thought are the only ones that I really like, and Octavarium has some great songs but it's kind of ruined by the ballads and the title track. I know a lot of people love it, but its just always bored me to death.
