I'm not a fan of Mountain. But this band, for me, is good for Proto Metal. Who do you think?

Hmmmmm... I'm not so sure about that. I'm very fond of Mountain actually, but aren't they just like really heavy blues with vaguely proggy undertones at times? Probably not proto metal to the same degree as AC/DC, Sabbath or Deep Purple. I get the point of suggesting them 'cause they are pretty heavy. The only thing is, if the proto metal category expands to include 'heavy blues' bands beyond the HUGE bands, there are so many that MMA might as well just have a Hard Rock category instead. (Which I wouldn't mind at all Big smile) Not only that, but I must thank you for reminding me to give my Mountain album another good play tonight!

As both Teo and I stated in the Uriah Heep/Hawkwind thread, this is not the time for us to add potentially controversial bands - no matter how important they may be in the development of the genre. I am very much in favour of a Hard Rock category, but we Collabs have all agreed that this is something that will be dealt with when the site is finally settled. After all, we don't want to end up with endless debates about who should be here and who shouldn't. We all know how they can poison the atmosphere of an otherwise pleasant discussion forum.

Nantucket Sleighride - has a psychedelic hard rock sound, but can't comment on an inclusion becuase I am not familiar with this band much.

Sure!

My opinion is that Mountain is a Proto Metal band... But as in PA... This type ofreasoning are the basis for trouble and misunderstandings. For me they are MMA or not I care very little. Only if MMA wants to be the site that wants to have metal in archive Mountain is a band to be taken into MMA database. Also because if Lucifer Friend's are here... No, one moment... If Lucifer Friend's are in PA... And if Rush in PA aren't in Prog Metal... (CryCryCry)... But good here not all Prog Metal band of PA are listed as Prog Metal... Great!!!

Uhm... I'm OT... And sure I return IT...: Mountain, Wishbone Ash (and other 70's bands) one day will surely have a place in MMA. Here it is better to get some bands on the waiting list ... And hence my suggestion.

But if this day is now... Urgh... Mountain is not Everest!!! WinkSmileLOL!!!

Since we Admins have made it clear that this is not the time to start evaluating anything potentially controversial, we have decided to close these threads for the time being, since they will not get any attention from the genre teams, yet may cause unnecessary tension among forum members. We will reopen them when the time is right.
