A thread for the discussion of Metal Documentaries.

The most notably ones I can think of are:

Such Hawks Such Hounds - General Doom, Stoner, Underground Documentary
Get Thrashed - General Thrash Documentary
Until The Light Takes Us - General Black Metal Documentary
The Decline Of Western Civilization 1,2,3 - General Punk, Hair Metal and Gutterpunk Documentary
American Hardcore - General 80s American Hardcore Punk Documentary
Anvil: The Story Of Anvil - Specific Documentary about the band Anvil
Flight 666 - Specific Iron Maiden Tour Documentary.

Tenacious D and Spinal Tap are also important lecturers in metal/rock

I saw Get Thrashed a couple of years ago and liked it, but it didn't have a lot of things that I didn't already know.  I think the story of Anvil was on VH1 once, but I didn't see all of it.

Sean Dunn's (Sam Dunn?) Metal: A Headbanger's Journey and Global Metal are also quite interesting.

As mentioned already Headbanger's Journey, Global Metal and This Is Spinal Tap are all essential.  I'm also a huge fan of The Megadeth Documentary.  It's a great look into what makes Dave tick, and there are loads of hilarious anecdotes.

What's The Megadeth Documentary?  All I know of is the Behind The Music.  Is it a recent one?

Also, there's that Lemmy documentary that I should make the time to see.

The Megadeth documentary is definitely interesting, but also kind of depressive - but in conjunction with Mustaine's autobiography, the Megadeth documentary becomes less negative.

Oh yeah, I was looking at my documentaries and somehow totally missed them.
I don't like Headbanger's journey because he's in it himself too much for my tastes, but am looking forward to his new spin off tv series.

Also, that existing VH1 series that did the history of metal... what was it, Heavy - The Story Of Metal

I've been watching Dunn's "Metal Evolution" series on TV. I like it so far.
I also enjoyed the doc. "Heavy Metal in Baghdad."

I'm looking for some good scene/sub-genre specific docs.  There's got to be some good death or black metal ones out there.  Maybe grindcore too.  I've already seen that Get Thrashed one for thrash metal.

I think I'll start with "Until The Light Takes Us", which I may of may not have seen before.

^Well Dan I found this place describing three different black metal documentaries: http://americanaftermath.net/2011/06/19/a-quick-rundown-of-black-metal-documentaries/

...well three are mentioned, two are described.

Thanks, Jonas.  I stumbled upon "Until The Light Takes Us" on Youtube.  I enjoyed it. Smile

Here's a list I'll be sure to go through: http://www.metalinjection.net/lists/top-666-metal-documentaries

Damn!  I thought it was going to list 66 documentaries instead of 6 LOL.  I still have to see "Heavy Metal In Baghdad" anyways.
