So I've watched this sci fi anime called Sidonia no Kishi. Imagine how surprised I was when I realized it's heavily inspired by Solaris by Stanisław Lem, my favourite writer, renowned philosopher and futurologist. What I believed was just Attack on Titan in space, has turned out to be a deep philosophical sf tale, tackling some of the most difficult themes (cloning, human condition, gender, immortality, social inequality, religion etc.)  in a very tasteful way. Very painful but rewarding.

Sounds more like an anime scenario LOL Oh man it goes on my short list. Once I finish my masters thesis (almost there), I'll watch this one for sure, right after Texhnolyze.

Primeval features prehistoric monsters rampaging in London as well as time travel. Doesn't get any better than that... but, yeah, it is over-the-top (which is what I like about it).

If I'm to be honest, I'm not particularly fond of British TV series... style. There's something over the top there that repels me both from Dr Who and Sherlock, even though there's a huge difference genre-wise between the two. Would be great to discover something that I'd actually like, because I've finished Deadwood [FUCKING AWESOME, WATCH IT] a couple of weeks ago, and haven't found anything interesting since then.

I recently watched "Cload Atlas", which I found moderately entertaining. I also watched "A Boy and his Dog", which was a pretty bizarre post-apocalyptic 70s movie starring a very Young Don Johnson.

I don't watch a whole lot of TV shows anymore or many movies, but classic Sci-fi is something I still love.

Of course I love the Star Wars movies (Except Phantom Menace and Clone Wars)

Other then that, I love the original Star Trek and 4th Doctor-era Doctor Who. I like The Twilight Zone too, but I'm not sure if that counts as Sci-fi.

I did'nt end to see the first season of Fringe yet. I did'nt knew the paralel universe thing! Well, you don't spoil that much, anyways!

That's true... I mean, Frankenstein is a combination of horror and sci-fi. And so is Blade Runner - the movie is full of elements known from Gothic literature.

can Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtels (TMNT) be regarded as Sci-fi since it is about nucular radiated turtles and a rat, which also deals with time travels and cloning and such, (with some Fantasy elements creeping in)

also the lines between Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy is a blurry thin line which indikated their close relationships

How about really camp sci-fi, like Flash Gordon from 1980 or the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century series from the same period?

mine is ruined (not), i think i have "fringed" one episode, they air season 2 on Fox Crime  looks interesting, ( i think it is the makers of Lost who is behind Fringe.

I caught a couple of episode back when it was on Danish TV.... as far as I remember, it was pretty cool. I just remembered it because, like Blade Runner, it combines the crime genre with sci-fi.

I've read some of his other works, too, and I really like Man In The High Castle - I like how the entire universe of the narrative collapses and breaks down.

Anyway, does anybody happen to know a TV show called Space Precinct? As far as I remember, it is a crime show set in a space opera setting.

Yeah I�ve read the Philip K. Dick novel too and I agree it wasn�t the most exciting thing. I�ve actually read quite a few of his novels and while they almost always deal with totalitarian regimes in a distant future and the common man�s struggle against those regimes, and that�s a theme that is always cool, they never moved me much.

Yeah, Blade Runner  is definitely a classic - I also like how it combines science fiction and film noir, and I must say that I prefer the film to the novel that it is based on (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?).
