I've never explored much Thrash metal, despite liking it a lot. What are some bands/albums you guys recommend that fit the title of this thread?

Some Thrash that I'm familiar with that I'm looking for similar sounds would be Dark Angel, Exhorder, Cryptic Slaughter, Municipal Waste, Demolition Hammer, D.R.I.

I know about Sodom and Kreator, but have only listened to a song here and a song there, whats a good starting spot?

I´m a huge Demolition Hammer fan, and I´ve sought for artists in their vein for years. I´ve found quite a few interesting brutal thrash/death-thrash artists in my search (although no one really sounds like Demolition Hammer):

I see you also have a couple of crossover thrash metal artists on your list in D.R.I. and Municipal Waste. If you want something along the lines of the latter I can highly recommend Gama Bomb, but also from the original garde Nuclear Assault and Atrophy.

D.R.I. are considered one of the seminal crossover thrash metal artists from the 80s. Other artists like that are S.O.D., M.O.D., early Suicidal Tendencies, Cro-Mags, Uncle Slam, Carnivore, Crumbsuckers, Lawnmover Deth, and Gwar.

I love S.O.D.'s first album, I forgot about them. ST and Gwar I didn't care much for, but it's been 7-8 years I think since I've listened to either band. I'm much more into punk now, so I'll have to see if opinions have changed on them. I'll need to add the others to my listening list

ST have done albums in many genres over the years. If you haven´t listened to the original version of the debut album, I can recommend starting there. There are a lot of hardcore punk elements on that release.

Gwar is an aquired taste LOL.

S.O.D. are of course THE seminal crossover thrash metal act, bringing the genre to light on the scene. The debut is phenomenal, but I can also recommend listening to their sophomore studio album "Bigger than the Devil". It´s a little heavier and more punchy, but still great.

Regarding Sepultura you should definitely check out their late 80s/early 90s albums. They are very different from what they did on Chaos A.D. (although I personally also love that album). Before Chaos A.D. Sepultura were one of the greatest brutal thrash metal (death-thrash) acts on the scene, and especially "Beneath the Remains" and "Arise" are considered classics in that genre.

The SOD live album is excellent too, as is the Pussywhipped bootleg, which they released a legit version of. And if you like SOD, try Carnivore.

It's a nice blend of thrash, hardcore and grindcore. If you don't mind the language...
