I'm a lifelong metal fan, and I've been looking around for a good forum to talk about music and get some good recommendations. I might even write some reviews in the future! Here are some of my favorite genres of metal: Black Metal, Progressive Metal, Industrial Metal, Sludge Metal, Post-Metal Here are some of my favorite metal bands: Immortal, Behemoth, Gojira, Opeth, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Acid Bath, Neurosis, Agalloch, Harakiri for the Sky

Welcome to MMA. I'm also a big fan of Gojira, Tool and Neurosis but black metal is a genre I'm only beginning to dive into. Any recommendations for a novice?

Well the grandfathers of 2nd wave black metal are of course Mayhem, I recommend checking out “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” and “Deathcrush” These albums very good and a great introduction to the typical sound of the genre Burzum is also really good (if you don’t mind the controversy, but I’m not going to talk about that) He has a more atmospheric approach to black metal. I recommend the self titled first album, “Hvis lyset tar oss”, and “Filosofem” Personally I love the more symphonic and melodic black metal bands, that’s why my favorite black metal band is Immortal. Immortal songs generally have stronger melodies and more traditional song structures, compared to classic black metal bands. In my opinion their album “At the Heart of Winter” is a masterpiece. Some other good albums by them are “Pure Holocaust” and “Sons of Northern Darkness” Another good black metal band in this category is Emperor. Emperor is very dramatic and symphonic. The album “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk” is the one that got me into the gene! |

Well I can´t say I share your love for black metal (especially the symphonic kind, which I generally don´t enjoy at all), but it would be great to see more black metal reviews on the frontpage. I don´t think we see enough of those at the moment. I´ve listened to (and have also reviewed) my fair share of black metal through the years, but it´s generally very few artists who have won me over. My profile shows that I have reviewed 116 black metal releases, so I guess I do listen to the genre occasionally My own preferences in metal are typically more riff based genres like thrash, speed, trad. metal, death metal, doom metal, and in the extreme end grindcore (I love the unhinged savage madness of it).

Hello!
Nice to see new people round here. Not so much into black metal and prog/melodic stuff myself, but if you want to know about thrash or old school death metal or grindcore in it's various forms give me a shout.

Welcome!
Hell yeah Since
you like Rammstein, do you know Die Krupps? If not, I think their
albums I, Final Option, and Odyssey of the Mind would be up your alley:

No, haven't heard of them, but that song's pretty sweet, I'll definitely have to check them out. Thanks for the recommendation!

Welcome to the site!
Since you're into industrial metal, have you listened to Meathook Seed? I bought my twin brother their first album for Christmas along with some non-metal music. I thought it was pretty cool. Basically some Napalm Death and Obituary guys in a side-project. |

I haven’t heard of them. Tbh, I’m not the biggest fan of Napalm Death or Obituary, but I’ll still check it out. Thanks for the suggestion! Edit: I listened to the song, and I liked it! Kinda gives me Ministry vibes. Edited by DeathofMan - 30 Jan 2022 at 12:36am |
