Great album, though Groove Family Cyco is my favorite. Violent and Funky is what made Rob Trujillo one of my favorite bassists. The opening to that song is absolutely insane, such a fantastic hook but I would have no idea how to play it myself. Don't think I'm anywhere near the same playing field.

I really like this album and its unique sound. The post-punk/new wave elements are cool, and Grand Pappy Du Plenty is a straight up post rock song. Not my favorite though either, Freaky Styley and Mother's Milk are my favorites.

The reason that the earliest Chili Peppers don't thrill me so much is because they don't sound unique at that point. There were tons of funk rock bands in the 80s doing the same thing. There are some great tracks on here but some awful ones as well. For me they didn't become a favorite band until Mother's Milk.
