Some recent movie lists:
The 100 Most Beloved Movies of All Time - movies selected from the popular chart on RYM with a rating of 3.75 or higher (a real achievement there to even get over 3.5) Commonly Watched Movies That People Don't Actually Like - movies that have tons of ratings on RYM, but crap scores. Gangster Films: A Timeline in 75 Essential Movies - notable films from 1912 to present. |

Honestly I think if someone is of the mindset to avoid 1930s movies they are probably also avoiding 1950s movies as well, at least beyond the few standards like Hitchcock. On RYM M (1931) has 3880 ratings. M (1951) has a mere 68. Here in the UK, you can't get the 1951 version without importing a foreign dvd. I have only seen it at all because I found it online.

I've seen both, I'm just surprised the remake isn't better known I guess. Especially since most people are far more likely to watch 50s movies than 30s

31, but half of those I don't consider particularly essential
definitely watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre & the Argento movies, those Coen and Carpenter ones are good too

Check the date on the entry. This isn't the M you're thinking of.

The only one I've seen is M, which seems too famous to qualify as an obscure movie

Round two of The VERY Obscure Movies Challenge:
It's possibly actually a little easier, since I had to change my criteria for inclusion slightly due to running out of movies before finishing it (the first one was done on the basis that A) I must think the movie is worth a watch and B) had less than 100 ratings on RYM. The second one allows up to 200, but many are still under 100).
