Myrkur's new one dropping black metal in favour of being a pure folk album reminded me that I'm actually rather partial to a bit of folk music. It's not a genre I have any kind of extensive knowledge on and it's mostly through metal bands who've made albums like this like Myrkur or otherwise have ties to metal bands. Who else here enjoys a bit of folk?

A few examples I've enjoyed:

Myrkur:

Fejd (Fejd eventually went folk metal for their fourth album):

Empyrium:

Eluveitie (one band I've always preferred playing folk instead of metal):

Panopticon:

I've heard a bit of Wardruna but don't know them that well. I should change that.

As for folk rock there's a bit of that on Elvenking's mostly unplugged album Two Tragedy Poets but mostly that's a pure folk album too and actually one of my favourites from the group:

^Not big on the vocals, but really catchy stuff. Are there any similar songs on that album?

More folk rock I like:

I thought their metal album was still excellent but I prefer Fejd the way they used to be.

I often wonder if Trolldom was kinda like an inverse of what folk metal bands do with making non-metal albums but since they added an electric guitarist to their main line-up I doubt it. I still enjoy Trolldom greatly but their first two albums remain my favourites, especially Eifur.

Garmarna, a folk band I recently discovered (Through the amazing Project Gotham Racing 2 soundtrack, started playing recently and discovering so much cool music from there):

They combine nordic/swedish folk music with downtempo electronic music. Really good stuff.

I rather enjoy some bluegrass music, if that counts. Some of my favorites bands are Nickel Creek, Punch Brothers and Railroad Earth:
