I noticed there are no threads on this... it's old news, but I'll post a little update anyway.

SYMPHONY X, well known and acclaimed progressive metal band from New Jersey are back after their fantastic 7th studio album Paradise Lost with their 8th studio record, to be called Iconoclast. Almost a year ago the band posted an update on their website stating that things were moving along on the new album, and last October an update said the band was almost done. The album will be the band's debut on the well known metal label Nuclear Blast, and is sure to be a great release! The album will be a loose concept album, and will have its lyrics centered around "machines taking over everything and all this technology we put our society into pretty much being our demise." (Russel Allen, lead singer)
Allen has stated it should be released in the first quarter of 2011.
Allen also commented that "Sonically, it's in the realm of Paridise Lost in a way, in terms of the sound of things; the guitar sound is a little different. Basically, the album is pretty intense, probably the most intense record we've ever done... "This album will contain a good body of work that harkens back to a lot of early metal, some early metal, and a lot of Symphony X standards that you guys know already, and a little bit of a newer sound too, here and there, just a newer direction."

I really liked them until Paradise Lost, which I really didn't care for.  I'll probably be a bit cautious about getting this new one.

I heard through a few of the bands I help that Symphony X is pushing to be more METAL and less progressive as result the last 2 releases. As far as I'm concerned I don't really care as long as the songs are good.

My brother just mentioned this me.

It is well known I am a huge Symphony X fan, so I'm naturally stoked about this.
My bro said they played a few songs live, and they sounded heavier than Paradise Lost.
Not a surprise, they've been moving in a heavier direction. i hope they can keep up the pace after 2 masterpieces in a row!

Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

Listen to doom metal, worship Satan

I know this is an old thread announcing their 2011 album Iconoclast but I guess it's a good idea to remind people that Symphony X is releasing their new album "Underworld" at the end of July.

Here is a lyric video for one of the new songs called "Nevermore" and it's a pretty good one.
