Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

Yep Vektor rules!!! The debut is pretty good too but nothing like the second album. Its too bad few people know about them.

It's pretty funny that I've only just found out about them, and they're from my home state. I have to admit that I haven't looked into to the Arizona scene, mainly because it's filled with a bunch of god-awful "screamo"-type hardcore bands.

Just adding my appreciation for Vektor. I've been telling everyone I know about them. Great thrash metal with a definite 80s sound without being "retro" or "nostalgia" thrash, it actually has definite individuality and character.

As for the Arizona scene, not that I know anything apart from Vektor now, but in the past it was among my favourites: Flotsam and Jetsam, Sacred Reich, Atrophy....

I can't believe no one mentioned Dark Angel... They were a band which actually scared Slayer back in the day. Also Whiplash, Razor, early Helloween, Crash from South Korea, Xentrix, Re-Animator, Onslaught, Acid Reign and of course, the mighty Lawnmower Deth!

^Darkness Descends is a great album in my book, but I never really enjoyed any of their other releases much. The first one is too heavy metal oriented for my tastes, and the two succeeding Darkness Descends focus too much on technical playing and Little on memorability. Leave Scars is alright, but Time Does Not Heal features an almost ridiculous amount of riffs and ideas crammed into each track. I just can´t enjoy it.

This one is incredible though and as you mention mandatory if you enjoy Slayer:

DARK ANGEL - Darkness Descends cover

If you enjoy Darkness Descends you should also check out this one:

GAMMACIDE - Victims of Science cover
