Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've started checking them out this morning.
Couldn't find the Sacrilege album on Spotify so I'll try looking elsewhere later. Witch Charmer didn't grab me after one track for some reason, so I moved onto Trouble. I listened to The Distortion Field first, which to be honest sounds more like a stoner metal album to me. I enjoyed it to a point but it didn't grab me too much. I've now moved onto their debut Psalm 9, which I'm enjoying a lot more.

Here's a few bands to check out.. Trouble - many good ones but could try most recent one The Distortion Field Witch Mountain for some bluesy doom. Sorceror - In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross Cathedral - The Ethereal Mirror (stoner/doom) Saint Vitus - Die Healing With The Dead - only have one album with a second on the way Solitude Aeturnus - Downfall

Knowing your tastes, these are my biggest two recommendations to you:
Sacrilege's Turn Back Trilobite: The band's first two albums are amazing crushing thrash, but then made one of my all time favorite doom metal albums with this one. You can still tell the band's origins though, as there is the occasional thrash riff. Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mcDT-0LbVA (Father Time) Witch Charmer: These guys are more stoner than doom, but I think you would really like them as they're a bit like early Blood Ceremony in some ways. Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R3-KAyuQ00 (A Watching of Wolves) I could recommend tons more, but these are the two favorites of mine that first came to mind.

I'm thinking that I need to get more acquainted with doom metal. Anyone feel like recommending me a few bands to try out?

Me neither but I hope they don't totally abandon doom.
The new Pallbearer has moved away to an extent from doom too. When i first started listening to it I was thinking this is going to have to be moved but then the doomier stuff crept in later.

They last album had non-doom dominant tracks like the title track, but I don't mind hearing something different from them like this.

Yes it was good. I get the feeling that they are going to move away even more from the doom of the first album than the last one but we shall see.

I liked it a lot, it's a very varied track with a bit of everything they do in it: a bit of doom, a bit of classic metal, and a bit of pysch and prog.

That sounds more sludge than doom but there can be a certain amount of crossover between certain sub genres and that does have some doom elements at times. Welcome to the forum by the way!

Would this fit? I become confused with all the genres and sub genres. Where would you categorise these?

Disembowelment. They are crushingly heavy and atmospheric but also incorporate grind parts, which is quite unusual for the genre.

I'm not sure if it's considered funeral doom, but Draconian is a great atmospheric doom band with very haunting yet pretty vocals.

Ahab and Candlemass are at the top of the Doom pile for me but there are a lot of really solid bands out there. Ereb Altor are good, they have some epic songs.
