^Obituary's new album is great, as is Xibalba's new EP. Those are my favorite death metal albums of the year so far.

Well right now I'm finishing up a death metal binge, however as soon as that's done I'm certainly gonna be checking out some of these.

I passed 40 reviews for 2017 albums recently, but my total heard is over 100. I need to catch up on actually writing about a few more of them.

Top album is currently oltreLuna by Progenie Terrestre Pura.

This is mine grouped by star ratings, some of them are only a first impression though:

5*

Ayreon - The Source
Fen - Winter
Locust Leaves - A Subtler Kind of Light (I might put this down to 4.5 because even though I love it, it sounds like half an album to me)
MindMaze - Resolve
Pure Wrath - Ascetic Eventide
Ungfell - Tôtbringære
Vandroya - Beyond the Human Mind

4.5*

Atlas Pain - What the Oak Left
Baltimor - Eepos
Bathsheba - Servus
Cnoc An Tursa - The Forty-Five
Grave Digger - Healed by Metal
Mesarthim - Presence
Saille - Gnosis
Satan's Hallow - Satan's Hallow
Seven Kingdoms - Decennium
The Doomsday Kingdom - The Doomsday Kingdom
Windswept - The Great Cold Steppe
Wormwood - Ghostlands: Wounds form a Bleeding Earth
Xandria - Theater of Dimensions

4*

Au Champ Des Morts - Dans La Joie
Crystal Fairy - Crystal Fairy
Dool - Here Now, There Then
Doom's Day - The Whore
Falls of Rauros - Vigilance Perennial
Hazy Sea - Electric Abyss
Lancer - Mastery
Lorn - Arrayed Claws
Multishiva - Time Messer
Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - Feed the Rats
Sweet Lich - Never Satisifed
Todesstoß - Ebne Graun
Wiegedood - Do Doden Hebben Het Goed II
Wolfchant - Bloodwinter
Worthless Life - Conscious in Coma

3.5*

Crystal Viper - Queen of the Witches
Dumal - The Lesser God
Hey Satan - Hey Satan
Ritual Haze - Machine Sun
Scáth na Déithe - Pledge Nothing But Flesh

3*

Pyramaze - Contingent (I found this really generic and boring compared to their last album, it's this year's biggest disappointment for me so far)

2*

As Lions - Selfish Age
Ghost Bath - Starmourner

I've been sort of keeping track of all the releases for this year that I've heard in a private RYM list, but I'm pretty bad at keeping it up to date. I'll try to get it sorted by the time of the next album of the year vote.

I have listened to very few 2017 albums, compared to new albums the previous years. Just don´t have as much time to review new releases these days. Thankfully I have a shitload of backlog reviews, so I won´t dry out any time soon. At least not when it comes to old releases.

I only have five 2017 albums so far (ordered the Helion Prime but for some reason it hasn't shipped to me...haven't gotten charged until it does).

I have the Pain Of Salvation, Witherfall, MindMaze, Pyramaze, and Seven Kingdoms. I like all of them, but the MindMaze is my favorite so far. Killer album, MindMaze certainly topped their 2014's Back From The Edge.

We're taking our time Chris. The priority has been on getting up to speed on the set ready for gigs so haven't done a lot yet. Don't even have a full album of songs yet. They're likely to be completed song by song I suspect but we have some great stuff written. It's likely to be heavier than anything the band have done before based on what we have so far.

Haven't heard loads from this year yet but albums I'm enjoying so far...

Immolation - Atonement (album of the year so far and will take some shifting)
Kreator - Gods Of Violence
Bathsheba - Servus
Dool - Here Now, There Then
Mors Principium Est - Embers Of A Dying World
Scenario II - A New Dawn
Overkill - The Grinding Wheel
Ritualization  - Sacraments To The Sons Of The Abyss

Coming soon, that I expect great things from, albums from Pallbearer, Mastodon, Obituary, Pilorian.

^ Black metal albums I think you'd like (you probably have a few on your list to hear already though). Not counting anything that isn't out yet.

Fen - Winter
Saille - Gnosis (all bar one track is on Spotify now)
Lorn - Arrayed Claws
Wiegedood - De Doden Hebben Het Goed II
Pure Wrath - Ascetic Eventide
Fell Ruin - To the Concrete Drifts (black/doom)
Imperceptum - The Eternal Path to Nothingness  (black/doom)

I haven't really listened to much from other genres that either isn't out yet or already on your list, but Ex Deo's new one is a solid symphonic death metal release.

I've been far too busy to listen to new music or do anything for that matter but i have been able to hear the new Pain Of Salvation. Shocked you're giving it only a 1 star. I quite like it myself. Not comparable to the classics but certainly an interesting listen for me. At least a 3.5 for me :)
