@Smkiller "Breakdowns are present in all "heavy" music genres. They're not limited to metalcore, post-hardcore, or deathcore. More often than not, a breakdown is a heavy, rhythmic riff accompanied with drum beats". the most iconic breakdowns are found in two songs
Remembrance - Gojira
Deliverence - Opeth

Don't know if it counts as a breakdown as such, but the WAAAAARDAAAAAANCE section at 2:40 rocks! |

Breakdown at 0:28 and another fantastic one at 1:49 Probably my favorite breakdown at 4:24. Simply phenomenal. Then again, I was always a BTBAM fanboy. Breakdown at 3:01 |

Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

I was always a fan of that breakdown. Arise is certainly my favorite Sepultura album as well. Here's one of my favorite breakdowns in Napalm Death's Christening of the Blind (around 1:33 it starts, but the main riff it goes into at 1:38 is what I'm referring to). |

I really like this one. I wrote this a while back in my shout to the video:
"This is an amazing track. Brutal as hell yet experimental and sophisticated. The break down is honestly one of the most brutal ones of its kind. Think Obituary meets Voivod meets Anacrusis."
The break appears about 2 minutes into the song, but the song is developing all the way toward the break which is a sort of climax IMO. Its the kind of brutal break that sucks the air out of your lungs. Beautiful, just beautiful. Edited by UMUR - 20 Dec 2010 at 1:49pm |

Are we talking about bridges that bring on the headbang? Like Metallica - Creeping Death? You know what I mean... Or Metallica - One and the other "ballads"? Well, those then.
But also Slayer - Crionics. I don't post that because it sounds weak today but fuck, I totally broke my closet door in 1989! Hell, Slayer - Angel of Death and Raining Blood. Raining Blood must be the mother of all breakdowns.

One of the first albums I bought was Machine Head's "Burn my eyes" and Davidian is a hell of a breakdown song.
